Artistic Director and Founder: Marvin Dueck  DMus, MA, BA, BRS

Marvin Dueck hails from the Lethbridge, Alberta area where for many years he was associated with the University of Lethbridge choral music program in various positions.  Dueck received his Bachelor of Religious Studies degree and Bachelor of Arts degree in Choral Conducting through the University of Winnipeg.  He then completed his Master of Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Iowa, studying with Don V Moses and Richard Bloesch.  He has assimilated a wealth of choral experience, both as singer and conductor, having performed and studied with such renowned musicians as Robert Shaw, Helmuth Rilling, and Eric Ericson.  Following the completion of his Masters degree, he held positions as Resident Artist for the Saskatchewan Choral Federation, high school music instructor in Manitoba, sessional instructor at the University of Lethbridge, and associate conductor of the University of Lethbridge Singers.  Dueck completed his Doctorate degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Alberta, studying with Leonard Ratzlaff and Debra Cairns.  Recipient of two major Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Research Scholarships during his studies at the University of Alberta, Dueck undertook research into the choral works of Belgian composer Vic Nees.  This included travel to Belgium to consult with Nees, and premiere North American performances of several of his choral compositions.  From 2006 – 2008, during the residency portion of his doctoral studies, Dueck was Teaching Assistant for the University of Alberta Madrigal Singers.  For the 2008-2009 academic year, while Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff was on leave, Dueck was the Interim Director of this ensemble, as well as assistant director of the Richard Eaton Singers.  Dr. Dueck has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Chinook Chamber Singers ensemble since its inception.
